The Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami Dade County (@arshtcenter) is pleased to present the Good Miami Project (@goodmiami) exhibit, a visual arts project showcasing 60 pieces of art produced by artist Greg Clark. The passion project, inspired by Clark’s volunteer experience with Overtown Music Project and Miami Waterkeeper, started in 2020, and highlights all the good that happens in Miami with 40 different nonprofit organizations. The pieces are on display in the lobbies of the Arsht Center’s Knight Concert Hall and Ziff Ballet Opera House, marking the largest exhibit of Clark’s work.
“Through my photography, I aim to capture the diversity of experiences and perspectives that make Miami a unique and vibrant place. I believe that by highlighting the many good things about Miami, I can help to build a more inclusive and equitable city for all,” said Greg Clark. “My work is characterized by a deep respect for the people and places I document. I hope the Good Miami Project inspires others to look more closely at the world around them and find the good in their communities. I hope this project inspires more people to volunteer and support the work being done by these organizations.””
Clark began the Good Miami Project to help Miami non-profits during the fall of 2020 when the COVID-19 crisis was still raging and the country was tearing itself apart in the run-up to the 2020 presidential election. With his newly acquired Covid antibodies after a bout with the virus, he started cold emailing organizations he found interesting in the Miami Foundation’s directory for Give Miami Day. The idea was to provide pro-Bono photography to help the non-profits tell their stories without strings attached. Luckily, a few agreed, and over the last two years, he has photographed over 40 organizations, exhibiting a few photos at the Miami-Dade County Main Public Library, bus stops throughout the county, and Lynn University. The exhibit at the Adrienne Arsht Center lobbies is the first time the full exhibit is on display.
The visual arts show at the Arsht Center will be on display to the public until June 2023 and can be viewed when guests attend a performance or during the Arsht Center’s behind-the-scenes tours held on Thursday and Saturday at noon. The subjects of each piece bring to light the amazing work the 40 partner organizations are doing. The exhibition is an ode to Miami’s diversity and philanthropic spirit.
“We are honored to showcase the work of Greg Clark as part of our mission to connect our community to not just the performing arts, but to all arts,” says Jairo Ontiveros, vice president of arts education and community engagement at the Center.
Each piece of the exhibit will be donated to the respective partner organization once the exhibit ends, serving as a lasting tribute to the work being done by these non-profits.
