Back once again, Miami-Dade County Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces will offer its popular, award-winning G.E.M. (Girls Empowerment and Mentoring) Summer Arts Camp at the Roxcy O’Neal Bolton Women’s History Gallery at The Women’s Park. The camp is a transformative six-week program, providing girls ages 6 to 14 with quality art experiences and  opportunities far beyond traditional summer arts programs where they can voice their thoughts and feelings, and be empowered to face challenges and pursue their dreams.

This innovative and inclusive camp features a nourishing, multicultural group setting and an array of workshops in visual, performance and language arts (dance, musical theater, chorus, painting, arts and crafts, journalism, women’s studies, environmental science, and leadership development), directed by visiting professional artists and educators. The program culminates with a “Summer Arts Showcase” performance and “The Festival of the Arts” art exhibition by G.E.M. girls at the park’s gallery.

A unique aspect of G.E.M.’s leadership is the venue itself, The Women’s Park, created by Miami-Dade Parks in 1992, as the nation’s first park dedicated to women. G.E.M. aligns itself with this iconic and historic park and serves as a fitting tribute to the legacy of The Women’s Park, with its ability to positively impact youth for the betterment and resilient future of our diverse multi-cultural community.

Now in its 14th season, the G.E.M. Summer Arts Camp will be held from June 20 to July 28, 2023. Registration begins March 20, 2023 and space is limited. The cost to register is $15. The weekly camp fee is $100. Lunch and one snack are included. The camp will be open weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Early drop-off and sign-in will be between 8 and 9 a.m., and late pickup and sign-out from 4 to 5 p.m.
