St. Patrick’s Fest move; Black Police Museum hosts club

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

The St. Patrick’s Day Festival, previously held in Coral Gables, moved to the German American Club in West Kendall on Mar. 11. With indoor and outdoor space, great entertainment, food, and lots of free parking, it was a great success.

The event featured a climbing wall and huge slide for kids and the young at heart as well as Irish dancers, the St. Andrews Pipers and much more. Kudos to event chair Charlie Davis, whom I had the pleasure of interviewing before the event. It served to be a wonderful kickoff to St. Patrick’s Day week.

That same day, several members of the General Federation of Women’s Club’s District 11, which includes 12 woman’s clubs from North Miami to Key West, gathered with their new club sisters from the Woman’s Club of Historic Overtown Village for a meeting in that club’s new home at the Black Police Museum. Club president Lavette Moore provided an amazing program that afforded the museum a chance to make several awards to impressive Black women whose work have cleared the path for so many. Look for more on that next time.

Speaking of service clubs, Coral Gables Woman’s Club recently presented a check to Nick Silverio for A Safe Haven for Newborns during the Mar. 7 Gringo Bingo. The check for $805 was partial proceeds from the club’s February monthly Gringo Bingo hosted by Clutch Burger’s Steven Bradley and sponsored by Lynn Bauer, Hal Wanless, Jerry Kavulich, EZ Title Services and 1st Elite Premier Financial.

In other events, The Villagers Tour of the Gardens took place Saturday, Mar. 4. The annual fundraiser was both educational and great fun with a perfect day for folks to explore some amazing gardens in the Pinecrest area. There were so many unsual trees and plants as well as landscaping ideas for all to see. After touring the gardens, guests gathered at Pinecrest Gardens where there were some great plants for sale outside and an assortment of items inside from jewelry to dishware and more.

For those who like a Scavenger Hunt, there will be a big one on Apr. 1 in the Gables to benefit the Coral Gables Woman’s Club Children’s Dental Clinic that serves children of the working poor throughout the county.

For more information on that, visit www.gfwccoralgableswomansclub.org.

Until next time, share your talents and make a difference.
