In keeping with a 77-year-old tradition, MCCJ will honor six leaders for demonstrating extraordinary measures to build a more welcoming, inclusive, just, and cooperative society.

These individuals will be awarded the coveted Silver Medallion for their humanitarian efforts in South Florida at a dinner to be attended by more than 400 business and community leaders on May 7 at the InterContinental Miami, 100 Chopin Plaza. There is a 5:30 p.m. reception and 7 p.m. dinner.

Since 1946, MCCJ has recognized leaders in the corporate, religious, and legal community with the Silver Medallion, for making a meaningful effort to prevent hate and engage with people who are different, whether by religion, race, cultural background, or sexual orientation.

The Humanitarian Awards will be hosted by Julia Bagg, a reporter at NBC6. Angie Bertot Santibañez, Community Engagement at Amazon; Mitchell Kaplan, Books & Books and Miami Book Fair, and Sara Barli Herald, partner at Bilzin Sumberg, will serve as dinner co-chairs in what has become one of the most important fundraisers for the nonprofit.
This event generates much-needed funds to help support programs throughout the year that are in keeping with MCCJ’s mission, which is to include all members of the community, regardless of faith, and work to create safe havens for dialog, train inclusive leaders, and highlight the benefits of diversity through education, advocacy, dialogue, and conflict resolution.

The 2023 recipients are Matt Gorson, senior chair of Greenberg Traurig; Ghislaine Gouraige, partner at New Edge Wealth; Dr. Mohsin Jaffer and Fauzia Jaffer, founders of the Mohsin and Fauzia Jaffer Center for Muslim World Studies at FIU and Miami Dade College, and Teresa Valdes-Fauli Weintraub, managing director with Merrill Lynch, Pierce, Fenner & Smith, Inc. The Clergy Medallion will go to Rabbi Robyn Fisher of Beth Or in South Miami-Dade. Each has focused their community involvement in areas where they can make an impact that’s in line with MCCJ’s mission to promote social justice and equality.
