Dade Heritage Trust recently named 13 honorees at its annual Preservation Awards Ceremony, which took place at the Historic Hampton House in Brownsville on April 20.
“The DHT Preservation Awards promote and highlight organizations and individuals for their local achievements historic preservation,” said Christine Rupp, executive director of DHT. “Even in the face of unprecedented development and redevelopment in Miami-Dade County, there are many people who are concerned about saving the historic and cultural assets of our community. The projects of the award winners are all wonderful examples of how a small group of people are making a big impact and making Miami a better place to live. We are proud to honor them.”
This year’s award winners include:
Scott Silver: Arva Award for excellence in preservation advocacy, celebrating his work on matters such as Miami Marine Stadium, the original Miami Circle, and MetSquare
Girl Scouts of Tropical Florida: Dolly MacIntyre Resiliency Award honoring 100 years of building girls of courage, confidence, and character throughout Miami and the Keys
Alex Van Mecl: Preservation, Action and Advocacy Award for the preservation of Opa-Locka’s historic architectural fabric
Tilia: Preservation, Action and Advocacy Award for the historic Alfred I. DuPont Building
Coconut Grove Business Improvement District: Preservation, Action and Advocacy Award for the promotion of the historic Coconut Grove in its 150th year
R. J. Heisenbottle Architects and the City of Miami Beach: Preservation, Action and Advocacy Award for the restoration of the Carl Fisher Clubhouse
R. J. Heisenbottle Architects and the Miami Women’s Club: Preservation, Action and Advocacy Award for the restoration and adaptive reuse of the Miami Women’s Club
HistoryMiami: Preservation, Action and Advocacy Award for their ongoing resiliency and contributions to the community through education and archival services
Morningside Neighborhood Association: Preservation, Action and Advocacy Award for the 100thanniversary of the historic neighborhood
Azucar Ice Cream and the Little Havana Visitors Center: Preservation, Action and Advocacy Award for their promotion of Calle Ocho as the center of historic Little Havana
Miami-Dade Military Museum and Memorial: Preservation, Action and Advocacy Award for the restoration and operation of the former Navy Blimp Base HQ, now home to the Museum
Kathy and Chris Marlin: Preservation, Action and Advocacy Award for the restoration of their historic Coral Gables Home
Bob Smith and Marc Campbell: Key Keeper Award for the preservation and maintenance of their historic home
Dade Heritage Trust (DHT) is Miami-Dade County’s largest preservation organization.
