This November 5th and 6th, make it your game plan to be part of one of this year’s most exciting tennis events, when Williams Island hosts the 2011 Grand Prix Masters Men & Women’s Tennis Tournament, including a Pro Clinic and a Pro Am. The United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) is the world’s oldest and largest association of tennis-teaching professionals; and this year’s event is sponsored by Wells Fargo Bank, Pines Ford Dealership, Park One (PK1) and Dynaserv. This marks the first time that Williams Island will be hosting a sanctioned tennis tournament.
“This will be a rare opportunity to meet and mingle with the pros and watch thrilling tennis matches with some of Florida’s top teaching professionals,” said Williams Island Tennis Director Carlos Triana, USPTA P-1 rated teaching professional. “In fact, the top four teaching professionals in all age groups in the state of Florida will be here. This will really be a great opportunity to learn the best tennis tips on how to improve your doubles game, hit better volleys and much more.”
The USTPA Grand Prix Masters Tournament weekend swings into action starting Saturday, Nov. 5 with a complimentary Pro Clinic from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. (for members only), followed by men’s and women’s singles and doubles matches from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. From 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. there will also be a cocktail party exclusively for players and sponsors. Then on Sunday, Nov. 6, a USPTA Pro Am will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. Match finals start at 10 a.m.; and doubles finals start at 2 p.m. ($80 p/p limited spaces Pro Am only).
The USPTA event will serve to highlight why Williams Island is renowned for creating “the ultimate tennis experience.” Residents and non-resident members can now enjoy club membership privileges including access to 14 clay courts and one deco-turf, all lighted for evening play, an ongoing schedule of tournaments, clinics and leagues, well-equipped locker rooms plus a brand new tennis pro shop.
The Williams Island Tennis Club also offers private and group lessons from renowned certified tennis pros like Carlos Triana, who possesses a wealth of knowledge in coaching ladies and men’s teams as well as juniors of all levels. Triana is a former #5 USPTA nationally ranked player; and has also been ranked #1 in Men’s Doubles 35’s in Florida; and #4 in Men’s Singles 40’s. Beyond being very active in tennis competitions, he is also very involved with USPTA seminars and conventions across the country.
Recently in the news for hosting a “Grand Slam of Tennis Legends” event, Williams Island will be making tennis news once again for hosting the USPTA Grand Prix Masters Tennis Tournament Nov. 5-6 – helping the USPTA perpetuate its mission to “elevate the standards of tennis-teaching professionals.”
“Williams Island POA General Manager Janette Giddings, as well as all board members have been instrumental in making this event possible,” Triana said. “We invite everyone to come and enjoy a fun weekend watching professional tennis matches right in our neighborhood!”
