The 27th annual Ministering to the Elderly Conference will consider the topic “Mindfully Navigating the Caregiving Journey: Caring for Others as We Care for Ourselves” on Thursday, June 8, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., on the campus of Miami Jewish Health Services, 5200 NE Second Ave.
The conference is being organized by the Greater Miami Jewish Federation’s Mishkan Miami,
The Jewish Connection for Spiritual Support; Miami Jewish Health, and Jewish Community Services of South Florida (JCS).
The theme of the conference will focus on caregiving as a bridge to a meaningful relationship with another person and the related emotional and psychological challenges.
Keynote speaker Nancy Kriseman, LCSW, is a licensed clinical social worker who has specialized in working with older adults and their families, in addition to presenting workshops on caregiving and dementia across the country. She has taught two courses — Aging and the Family, and Death and Dying — at Kennesaw State University for more than 14 years. She has written three books in elder care, including The Mindful Caregiver: Finding Ease in the Caregiving Journey.
Additional presenter Helene Berger has held major positions of Jewish leadership both locally and nationally. Her book Choosing Joy: Alzheimer’s: A Book of Hope was inspired by the unanticipated, positive results that her late husband Ady achieved after his diagnosis of Alzheimer’s Disease.
Registration fee for the conference is $36 per person and advance registration is required. Continuing education credits will be available for nurses, mental health professionals and guardians.
