The Architectural firm of M.C. Harry and Associates announced last week the promotion of Javier O. Torres, AIA, to the position of Principal, joining James W. Piersol and Thomas M. Carlson as shareholders and Owners of the firm.

Mr. Torres has over 14 years of professional experience in the planning, programming, design, and construction administration of numerous facilities for municipalities, government agencies and public institutions. He is one of an elite group of ‘next generation’ leaders at M. C. Harry & Associates and has distinguished himself through leadership, professionalism, performance, continued interest in furthering his knowledge base, and a commitment to the core values that make M.C. Harry a unique organization and great place to work. He has made significant contributions to the firm’s success and will continue to do so to assure its long term sustainability.

Clients he has worked for during his 12 year tenure at the firm, include agencies from Miami-Dade and Broward Counties, as well as the State University System, the University of Miami, and the cities of South Miami, Coral Gables, Miami, Miramar, Miami Beach, Village of Islamorada, Town of Miami Lakes and the Village of Palmetto Bay. They have all praised Torres’s technical expertise, knowledge, creativity, attention to detail, his ability to understand and transform clients’ needs into working solutions, and his unique collaborative approach to problem-solving during the design and construction of their projects.

Mr. Torres has led M.C. Harry’s sustainable design and construction program and has been directly involved in the sustainable design aspects of all LEED projects, including materials and systems selection, specification writing and project administration. He has been instrumental in many projects earning Certified, Silver and Gold certifications from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). Most recently, one of those projects was selected as a finalist by the local chapter of the USGBC under the category of LEED for New Construction. He continues to lead M.C. Harry in the pursuit and design of ‘green’ buildings.

Mr. Torres is a Miami-Dade College alumnus and holds a Master of Architecture and Bachelors of Architecture degree from Florida A&M University. He is a Florida registered Architect and NCARB certified, and is recognized as a Construction Documents Technologist by the Construction Specifications Institute, and a LEED Accredited Professional with Building Design and Construction Specialty by the U.S. Green Building Council.

The firm of MCHarry & Associates is an award winning firm practicing in the markets of Municipal Facilities, Academic, Aviation, Commercial, Court Facilities, Hospitality, Libraries, Technical, Industrial, and Transportation. They are one of the oldest Architecture and Engineering firms in Miami and recently celebrated their 54 year anniversary. www.mcharry.com.
