SAS student’s essay earns him a trip to state capital

Sebastian Messier

School for Advanced Studies Kendall senior Sebastian Messier is one of two winners in the Chamber South 2012 Essay Contest.

As a result Sebastian and his father, Gustavo, will be flying to Tallahassee on Feb. 6 as part of Chamber South’s Legislative Days at the Capitol. He will attend meetings with local legislators during this two-day event, along with touring the Old and New Capitol buildings and the Florida Supreme Court.

Mary Scott Russell, president of Chamber South, will accompany Sebastian and his father on this all-expense-paid trip to learn about the political process.

Sebastian wrote about apathy among the youth today in his winning essay. Russell stated that Sebastian’s essay was one of the finest she has ever had the pleasure of reading. She said she enjoyed it so much that she did not want it to end. Sebastian’s Advanced Placement English teacher at School for Advanced Studies, Maria Ruiz-Legg, was especially proud to hear that Sebastian’s writing is receiving this well-deserved recognition.

Chamber South is posting his essay to its website www.chambersouth.com so that everyone can read it.
