In honor of The Palace Coral Gables’ tenth anniversary in The City Beautiful, the active retirement community is hosting “Walk-the-Mile,” celebrating the city where residents live, play and thrive.
Local stores, restaurants, service providers and entertainment and cultural venues will display photographic banners featuring Palace residents who are their patrons during a month-long celebration.

“Walk the Mile” kicks off August 4 with a VIP ribbon-cutting Friday evening and unveiling of the banners.  On Sat., Aug 5, the banners will be displayed throughout participating Coral Gables locations.  The public is invited to attend the following events:

  • Sat., Aug. 5 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.: Enjoy lectures, demonstrations and presentations by participating sponsors at The Palace Coral Gables, 1 Andalusia Avenue.
  •  Sat., Aug. 5 at 7 p.m.: Join us for a Meet & Greet with Coral Gables Mayor Vince Lugo, who will discuss the City’s wealth of programs and services for older adults.
  • Sun., Aug. 6 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.: A street fair will celebrate “Walk the Mile.”
“We’re thrilled to showcase our local community and illustrate the many benefits of living in Coral Gables,” said Pamela Parker, The Palace’s Activity Director. “The maintenance-free lifestyle of our community affords our residents more free time to enjoy what’s available right in the City. The walkability, convenience and proximity to cultural and dining venues found here is truly an asset. Coral Gables offers the opportunity to age well and enjoy the vitality of the ‘City Beautiful’ as a community for all ages.”

While many Palace residents lived in Coral Gables before moving to the community, many newcomers were also attracted to The Palace because of its urban location, accessibility to Miracle Mile.

“Often, senior living communities focus on their internal community rather than the external environment,” added Parker. “We felt it was important to show the vitality of our residents and their value to the city. An urban senior housing community provides an environment that is accessible, resilient, and equitable. We’re happy to be a good neighbor and be part of the Coral Gables community.”
