Miami Children’s Museum has announced the return of “Representation through the Artist’s Lens: Conversations and Workshops for Children,” Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 26 and 27.
This program series is made possible with the generous support of the Lynn and Louis Wolfson II Family Foundation to empower children by embracing diversity and encouraging artistic expression. The program will provide young learners with an immersive and inclusive experience. Miami Children’s Museum is a leader in early childhood education and recognizes the importance of providing an inclusive space with positive representation.
“We are thrilled to host the ‘Representation through the Artist’s Lens’ program at Miami Children’s Museum,” said Deborah Spiegelman, CEO of the Miami Children’s Museum. “Art has the power to transcend cultural boundaries and foster inclusivity, and through this program, we aim to provide children with a unique platform to explore diverse art forms and appreciate the richness of different cultures.
“Programs like these introduce children to a career in the arts and explore the idea of becoming an artist themselves. We are grateful to the Lynn and Louis Wolfson II Foundation for their support of this project,” she added.
“We recognize the importance of arts education and providing access to the arts to all children,” said Lindsey Wolfson, of the Lynn and Louis Wolfson II Foundation. “The ‘Representation through the Artist’s Lens’ program introduces children to a wide diversity of talented artists and allows children to see themselves reflected in the programming at Miami Children’s Museum. We are pleased to support this program to expand the reach and introduction to the arts to more children and families in Miami-Dade County.”
The program will feature renowned visual artists, including Wilson Bowers and Paola Gutierrez, and Shawna Moulton, Sterling Rook, Najja Moon and Gerbi Tsesarskaia, from the Bakehouse Art Complex. These talented individuals and artists will share their expertise and insights, inspiring children to embrace their creativity and celebrate cultural diversity.
This unique program allows children to see themselves reflected in the artists, their journey and their artwork, and learn about a variety of career opportunities that are available to them should they want to pursue a career in the arts.
Dates for “Representation through the Artist’s Lens” program:
Visual Artist Najja Moon from Bakehouse Art Complex (Aug. 26), and
Visual Artist Gerbi Tsesarskaia from Bakehouse Art Complex (Aug. 27).
This year, the Lynn and Louis Wolfson II Family Foundation grant is making it possible for children in neighboring communities to experience the Representation Program expanding the reach and impact of this important program. Following the summer series at the museum, children enrolled in the museum’s afterschool program located at six school sites in Miami-Dade County will experience the Representation Program in their classrooms throughout the first semester of the 2023-24 school year.
