Happy Fourth of July!

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

As we celebrate the 4th of July this year, I’d like to encourage allresidentsto cooperate
in making this one of the safest and most enjoyable holidays ever!

Independence Day has always had special significance in our city. All of us are blessed
to live in the greatest city, county, state and country that the world has ever known.
We enjoy privileges and freedoms that exemplify the zenith of human civilization.
And while each of us has the right to celebrate the birth of our nation in their own
way, no one has the right to endanger the lives or safety of others. This year let’s have
safe July 4th celebrations and in observing the laws and the rights of others. West
Park let’s display true patriotism, and a true appreciation for what it means to be an
American. Below are some safety tips:

FIREWORKS SAFETY
1. Never give fireworks to small children, and never throw or point a firework
toward people, animals, vehicles, structures or flammable materials.
2. Always follow the instructions on the packaging.
3. Keep a supply of water close by as a precaution.
4. Make sure the person lighting fireworks always wears eye protection.
5. Light only one firework at a time and never attempt to relight “a dud.”
6. Store fireworks in a cool, dry place away from children and pets.

GRILLING SAFETY
1. Always supervise a barbecue grill when in use. Don’t add charcoal starter fluid
when coals have already been ignited.
2. Never grill indoors — not in the house, camper, tent or any enclosed area.
3. Make sure everyone, stays away from the grill, including children and pets.
4. Keep the grill away from the house or anything that could catch fire.
5. Use the long-handled tools especially made for cooking on the grill.

Let’s all work to keep the spirit of mutual respect and love of country alive, not just on
Independence Day, but year-round in West Park. As you enjoy this holiday with family
and friends, I hope you will take a moment to reflect on what it means to be a good
neighbor. Let us be respectful of our neighbors and our city at large. Remember to
keep our city clean and let us follow all rules that could infringe upon our neighbors.
It is residents working together to make life better for all.

I also urge you to reflect on the freedoms we enjoy as Americans. Please remember
those serving in the military, who are advancing the cause of freedom around the
world. Fly your flag proudly as we celebrate our nation’s birthday, and have a happy,
respectful and safe 4th of July West Park!
