The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, Asexual, Plus (LGBTQIA+) Advisory Board invites the community to kick off LGBTQ History Month at noon, on Sept. 28, in the lobby of the Stephen P. Clark Center, 111 NW First St.
As part of the celebration, the traveling exhibit titled “Days Without Sunshine: Anita Bryant’s Anti-Gay Crusade” will be on display, curated by the Stonewall Museum, Archives, and Library collection. This exhibit delves into Anita Bryant’s influential “Save Our Children” Campaign, which successfully led to the repeal of a 1977 Miami-Dade County Ordinance.
For the second consecutive year, the county will observe LGBTQ History month in accordance with the legislation approved by the Board of County Commissioners in April 2022. Reserve for the free event on https://www.eventbrite.com/e/days-without-sunshine-anita-bryants-anti-gay-crusade-tickets-708521064577?aff=oddtdtcreator.
Throughout LGBTQ History Month, the accomplishments of gay and civil rights leaders will be honored, alongside acknowledging the historical and present achievements of LGBTQIA+ individuals who serve as exemplars, community builders, facilitators of informed discussions, and advocates for visibility and awareness.
For more details, inquiries can be directed to LGBTQIA+ Program director Gabriel Paez via email or by phone at 305-375-4935.
