SUMMER IS OVER AND CHILDREN ARE BACK TO SCHOOL! Now that summer is over, we welcome all the children back to the classroom. I want to wish everyone a very safe and productive 2023-24 school year. With that being said, there can never be too many notices on safety. Let me remind you to be cautious when driving in the school zones, as it is the season of large tickets from law enforcement! Please obey the speed limits.

CONGRATULATIONS TO MYSELF

HUMBLED does not describe how I felt when I was contacted by the Jamaica USA Chamber of Commerce notifying me that I am an honoree for the Jamaican Milestone Award.

I want to say a huge thank you to the president, Mrs. Marie Gill, and board members for selecting me for this Jamaican Milestone Award for EXCELLENCE IN PUBLIC SERVICE! It was a formidable event, and the ambience along with the cultural activities were a phenomenon. This award will be much appreciated.

Hurricane Season is June – November. Please remember that the hurricane season officially ends November 1st, and we are at its peak. Prepare, prepare, and continue to prepare. I cannot stress this enough, homeowners if you have not done so already, please trim the trees and clear all debris that would become an issue if we were to have a strong hurricane. We want to make sure our families and neighbors are safe.

Please visit https://www.broward.org/hurricane/pages/default.aspx for information on hurricane preparedness and www.cityofwestpark.org to download the 2023 Hurricane Guide that is available for free. Please take advantage of all the additional services that West Park provides, which are all listed on the city’s website.

LEND A HELPING HAND Please check on your elderly neighbors, and lend a helping hand, as most are not physically or even financially able as they age. They may need tree trimming, yard work, or help with their hurricane shutters. Furthermore, while you are out securing your hurricane essentials, grab a flashlight and a pack of batteries and bless an elderly neighbor. Additionally, if there are any elders in need of activities to take part in, such as field trips etc., contact the senior program at (954) 964-0284.
