Cinnamon Spice and everything nice…I am so elated that autumn is here; this is the time where all the festive holidays start to appear. Holidays generally represent cheerfulness, quality family time, good food, vacations, or time off from work and mindfulness/reflection. Take this time to smell the nutmeg, rejuvenate the mind, body, and spirit. Do not allow the busyness of the holiday season to stress you out and cause discord amongst your family, friends, or neighbors. The horror of Halloween is over and now it is time to reflect, give thanks and praises as Thanksgiving is next.
As a friendly reminder Daylight Saving Time ends on Sunday, November 5th, which means time will fall back one hour and everyone will gain an extra hour of sleep. Additionally, as daylight saving time comes to an end that also ends the season of later sunsets, which means it will get darker earlier in the evening, so please take all safety precautions.
Other key dates to remember include Veterans Day. Many of you should be aware that right here, the City of West Park is home to one of the greatest and most active Veterans of Foreign War (VFW) Posts, which is none other than VFW Post 8195. The post is located at 4414 Pembroke Road; please take the time to stop by and thank our veterans for their service not only to our country but to our community. The VFW has been a great support to our community; they always have something going on, from dance classes to spades and domino tournaments; it is an economic event space and excellent location for catching up with an old friend or meeting someone new in the community. The VFW Post, currently under the leadership of Commander William Frazier, has been a pillar to our community. I am sure they will be hosting numerous festivities for you to enjoy and participate in over the holidays, so keep your eyes open and your ears to the ground and show interest in what is going on around town.
We are approaching the season of giving and I am humbled and grateful for all that God has given me. I truly believe to whom much is given much is required. When you serve God’s people He is pleased, and I am so elated to be able to utilize my talents to give back to my community who has given so much to me.
I wish you all nothing but love, peace, and prosperity. Remember to think about those in the community who are less fortunate or may need a helping hand. Be neighborly and an overall good steward and good citizen. If you see something say something.
Please remember your elected officials have an abbreviated meeting schedule during the holiday season. However, we will still at least have one (1) official meeting on the first Wednesday of each month from October until December. Please plan to attend meetings either in person or virtually online at www.cityofwestpark.org. Also feel free to visit our city official Facebook page as well as Facebook community led groups such as West Park Word of Mouth to stay informed as to what is happening in and around our city.
I may always be reached by email at: Ktouchstone@cityofwestpark.org or via cell at 954-477-9718. Together we are stronger and it takes all of us collectively working together to create the community we want to live in.
Best wishes to everyone for a safe and enjoyable holiday season!
