I am honored to represent our beautiful City of Miami Gardens in the United States Congress. In my tireless effort to serve our great city, I’ve shuttled between our vibrant
Miami Gardens and the bustling heart of our nation’s capital, Washington, D.C. This year, I had the privilege of swearing in Vice Mayor Katrina Wilson, a dedicated public servant who shares our vision for a stronger, united Miami Gardens.
In an exciting development, we brought a piece of Miami Gardens to the nation’s capital during the Congressional Black Caucus Annual Legislative Conference, where many Miami Gardens officials joined me to honor the extraordinary women leaders of Florida—including our incomparable Councilwomen. During the conference, it was an honor to host three
thought-provoking panel discussions on critical issues, including “Wake up Africans in America: Preserve our History,” “Policing in the Black Community,” and “Don’t Build a Jail for Me: Prevention, Not Detention.” These discussions allowed us to address and confront the challenges facing Black men and boys, promoting dialogue that will help drive positive change.
As a senior member of the education committee, I brought home $4 million to establish a Boys and Girls Club at the Dr. Frederica S. Wilson/Skyway Elementary School. This initiative will provide our young students with a safe and enriching environment to grow and learn. In addition, I have secured $750,000 for essential drainage improvements within our city, enhancing our infrastructure to ensure a better quality of life for our residents. We also had the pleasure of hosting esteemed government officials in Miami Gardens. HUD Secretary Marcia Fudge, Education Secretary Miguel Cardona, Labor Secretary Marty Walsh, and SBA Administrator Isabella Casillas Guzman visited our community to witness our incredible progress and vision for Miami Gardens. We proudly showcased the transformative projects and initiatives that are helping shape the future of our city.
In our unwavering commitment to healthcare and wellness, we organized a colorectal cancer education and awareness event at the Jessie Trice Center. I hope that by helping raise awareness, we can save lives and build a healthier community. Celebrating cultural diversity is another hallmark of our efforts. We were thrilled to commemorate the Bahamas’ 50th Independence Day alongside our local officials, embracing the vibrant Bahamian roots that enrich our community. It was a celebration of unity and diversity, making Miami Gardens a unique and welcoming place to call home.
As we look ahead, I am more determined than ever to fight for our community.
Miami Gardens, you have my unwavering commitment. I am here to serve and advocate for the betterment of this vibrant city, and I will continue to work tirelessly to make our city a shining example of unity, diversity, and progress.
