The 2023 South Florida McDonald’s Golden Grants program represented by McDonald’s Owner/Operator, Milly Montes, awarded recipient Miami Lighthouse with $5,000 for children’s “Famous Artists” project represented by Miami Lighthouse CEO Virginia Jacko.
“On behalf of the McDonald’s Owner/Operators of South Florida, we are here to support the local communities through our McDonald’s Golden Grants program serving children ages 5-18 and grades K-12,” said Montes. “In 2023, we had over 400 applications this year, but today we celebrate our $5,000 winner, Miami Lighthouse, and their art education program.”
Miami Lighthouse plans to utilize the $5,000 grant toward their “Famous Artists” project. Miami Lighthouse Academy art teacher, Aaron Hill, expressed how useful the grant will be toward activities enjoyed by students, including textile work and ceramic making.
No matter the disability, Miami Lighthouse is proof that everyone can create art. The McDonald’s Golden Grant program is proud to support organizations just like this one throughout South Georgia and Florida.
“The children that we support, whether they be one year old or in the second grade, benefit from this curriculum,” Jacko stated. “It is possible to created art without sight, and we see it here every day.”
