The team at South Gables Dental

Dr. Lawrence Lesperance recognizes that a combination of superior training and advanced technology, along with seasoned expertise in the field of dentistry, is essential to improving the health and lives of his patients.

But there’s much more to the mix that makes South Gables Dental shine. It’s a passion for doing what is right. This proud Miami native who’s been serving the South Florida community his entire career believes that helping people and being ethical in all areas of life are what really counts.

That’s why it comes as no surprise that Dr. Lesperance is stepping up to help his fellow South Floridians who have been impacted by the recent bankruptcy of Smile Direct Club (SDC), a Nashville-based remote dentistry established in 2014 to rival Invisalign, Align Technology’s invisible orthodontics system of removable, clear-plastic teeth aligning.

In September 2023, with no notice, SDC operations ended indefinitely, leaving its clientele in the lurch with little hope of completing their pre-paid treatments or ever getting a refund. Essentially, the promise of their so-called “lifetime smile guarantee” was liquidated overnight.

“We apologize for the inconvenience,” SDC says on its website. “If you wish to continue treatment outside of our platform, consult your treating doctor or your local dentist with any questions around future aligner treatment.”

And here is where South Gables Dental steps in.

For a limited time, Dr. Lesperance is taking 50 percent off his Invisalign service fees for qualified patients who can show they were in the midst of their home self-treatment routine at the time of the SDC bankruptcy. This well-timed offer is made possible by a promotional savings program whereby Align Technology is reducing its lab fees for participating dental practices that offer their Invisalign Comprehensive, Invisalign Moderate, Invisalign Lite, Invisalign Go and Invisalign Express products.

“We’ve been offering Invisalign’s services to our patients since 2010, with great success,” Dr. Lesperance said. “And so, we are eagerly willing and able to come to the assistance of those individuals caught off guard by this unfortunate situation.”

How the promotion works
People who have been impacted by the SDC bankruptcy may now turn to South Gables.

Dental by taking the following steps:
• Patients who have undergone Direct-to-Consumer (DTC) treatment or had their DTC treatment interrupted due to a company closure must complete a promotion form enabling the doctor to offer discounted Invisalign treatments.

• They must provide valid proof of previous DTC treatment within 12 months prior to acceptance by South Gables Dental of a treatment plan for an eligible Invisalign product.

• Once it is determined that applicant qualifies for this promotion, they will receive 50 percent off the cost of lab fees based on qualifying Invisalign treatment plans.

“Of course, when we heard the news, we were greatly concerned for these stranded patients,” Dr. Lesperance said. “But now, through this one-time savings program, we can help ease their financial burden while continuing to improve their bite and smile.”

Applicants should note that the promotion is first-come first-serve and the number of promotions granted is limited. In addition to offering Invisalign products and services since 2010, South Gables Dental specializes in cosmetic dentistry, implant dentistry, one-visit Porcelain crowns and family dentistry.

Devoted to community service
“Giving back” is second nature to this Coral Gables native, particularly here in his hometown community where Lesperance attended local schools through graduation from Christopher Columbus High School.

After receiving his BA in biology from Brown University and dental degree from Emory University, Dr. Lesperance completed an advanced dentistry program at the prestigious Pankey Institute on Key Biscayne. Today, fueled by excellence in his field, he also is driven by a humble passion to give back to the city that gave to him so much.

Dr. Lesperance volunteers his services in community health programs ranging from dispensing pro-bono dentistry via an outreach van that his church dispatches monthly into lower income neighborhoods, to volunteering every Monday morning for the St. John Bosco Clinic to help the young, old, unemployed, and “working poor” who do not qualify for insurance yet desperately need basic health and dental services.

A win-win for everyone
“The act of giving back has always been at the heart of our mission at South Gables Dental, so assisting people impacted by the SDC debacle was a no brainer for us,” Dr. Lesperance said. “In fact, it’s a win-win for everyone. We get to help people in need, while at the same time, the people caught in the middle of this bankruptcy situation – through no fault of their own – can get some much-needed relief.”

South Gables Dental is located at 4950 S. LeJeune Rd., Suite C, Coral Gables, FL 33146.
