The City of Miami is proud to announce its unwavering commitment to the preservation of the natural beauty and ecological balance of the Biscayne Bay Islands. Miami Parks has taken steps to protect and maintain the spoil islands located within the bay, recognizing the importance of these unique habitats for the local environment and community. The spoil islands, created from dredged materials during the construction of the bay area, have evolved into an essential component of the ecosystem, providing a habitat for diverse plant and animal species.

Miami Parks has engaged with conservation groups like the Florida Wildlife Commission, Florida Inland Navigation District, and the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, along with local organizations. We now invite community members to participate in a virtual workshop on February 15, 2024, at 1:00 PM via Zoom. To register, visit www.biscaynebayislandsworkshop.eventbrite.com.

Parks Director Chris Evans stated, “The preservation of our natural resources and wildlife is an unwavering priority for the Parks Department and for the City. We are fully committed to establishing and promoting conservation efforts to protect the environment.”
