SOMI Art Fest: New name, refreshed branding and national recognition
The SOMI Art Fest has grown to over 120 vendors spanning all four blocks of downtown South Miami.

The Rotary Club of South Miami and its South Miami Rotary Foundation Inc have announced a significant milestone in its journey as an advocate for the arts.

Formerly known as the South Miami Rotary Art Festival, the event has undergone a remarkable transformation, including a name change to “SOMI Art Fest,” accompanied by a refreshed branding. This exciting rebranding initiative not only captures the essence of the festival but also highlights its national recognition, as recently revealed in the Sunshine Artist magazine’s 2023 200 Best rankings.

Sunshine Artist magazine, renowned for its annual 200 Best list, ranks the most profitable art and craft festivals in the United States based on artists’ reported sales from the previous year. The Rotary Club of South Miami’s SOMI Art Fest, scheduled for Feb. 24 and 25, was ranked No. 56 in the Fine Art & Design Show category.

Launched in 1993, Sunshine Artist’s 200 Best distinguishes festivals into two categories: Fine Art & Design, focusing on unique fine art pieces, and Classic & Contemporary Craft, centering on traditional or modern craft and production work. This prestigious ranking reaffirms SOMI Art Fest’s commitment to excellence in the fine art and design category.

The festival’s inclusion in the 2023 200 Best list is a testament to its outstanding contribution to the arts and the South Miami community. It showcases the dedication of the South Miami Rotary Club and the festival organizers in creating an event that not only supports artists but also provides an exceptional experience for attendees.

Artists who exhibited at various events in 2022 cast their votes from February through April to nominate their highest money-making shows. Sunshine Artist’s 200 Best rankings are based solely on artists’ show revenue, making it the most objective indicator of a show’s success. The results, tabulated using a weighted scale, ensure fair competition among all events.

While SOMI Art Fest’s name and branding have evolved, its core mission of celebrating artistic talent, fostering community engagement, and supporting arts education remains unchanged.

About SOMI Art Fest
Starting as a small show with only 25 booths, the SOMI Art Fest has grown to over 120 vendors spanning all four blocks of downtown South Miami. Artists come from all over the United States and Canada. Over the years the show has engaged local musicians to play during this juried event, and also will feature dancing and live music on Saturday evening from 6 to 9 p.m., and a kid zone on both days.

The South Miami Rotary Foundation Inc is a 501(c)3 that funds college scholarships for South Miami students, as well as other local, national, and international service projects. All proceeds from the SOMI Art Fest support these projects.
