The Village of Palmetto Bay conducted its annual Celebration Picnic on Saturday, Mar. 2, at Coral Reef Park. The popular event honoring the incorporation of the village drew thousands according to staff.

“We estimate we had between 2,000 and 2,500 guests,” said Parks & Recreation director Fanny Carmona.

The family-friendly event offered free food, rides, games, music, entertainment and activities suitable for all ages. A number of sponsors made the event possible., including Premium sponsors — Nicklaus Children’s Hospital, Baptist Health South Florida and The Collection.

Mayor Karyn Cunningham, who threw out the first pitch at the Mayor’s Cup Baseball Game, was pleased about the return of the event.

“The annual Village picnic is a perfect combination of food and fun, and the performances by all the student groups lifted everyone’s spirits,” Mayor Cunningham said. “It’s one of our biggest and best events of the year and seeing so many happy residents enjoying one of our beautiful parks never gets old.

“In fact, one of the reasons why our parks are so important to our community is because they bring friends, neighbors and family members together to celebrate the quality of life we enjoy here in Palmetto Bay,” the mayor added.
