Homestead welcomes new city manager, Dr. Nzeribe Ihekwaba

The City of Homestead celebrated the inauguration of Dr. Nzeribe (Zerry) Ihekwaba, PhD, PE, as its new city manager on Mar. 28. The installation ceremony, held at the Homestead City Hall Council chambers, was a momentous occasion attended by esteemed guests, including friends, family, colleagues, as well as current and former elected officials.

The evening commenced with a welcome from Mayor Steve Losner and council members on the dais, setting the tone for the event. Following the opening ceremony, Dr. Ihekwaba was sworn into office by his wife, the Hon. Chiaka Ihekwaba, Judge of Miami-Dade County Court.

The installation ceremony concluded with a reception in the Homestead City Hall lobby where attendees were treated to an array of refreshments and light bites, fostering an atmosphere of camaraderie and celebration.

Dr. Nzeribe (Zerry) Ihekwaba, PhD, PE, joins the City of Homestead from the City of Miami, where he had held a variety of leadership positions since 2010. With licensure as a Professional Engineer in both Florida and Georgia, Dr. Ihekwaba earned his Civil Engineering degree from the University of Nigeria in 1985, followed by a PhD in Structural and Materials Engineering from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, Canada, in 1996.

Dr. Ihekwaba’s career is marked by significant achievements in public service. In Miami, he notably served as deputy city manager, leveraging his expertise to drive progress within the municipal administration. Prior to that, he held roles such as assistant city manager for seven years and director of Public Works for over four years, showcasing his dedication to enhancing infrastructure and community development.

His active engagement in professional organizations such as the American Society of Civil Engineers and Leadership Florida reflects Dr. Ihekwaba’s commitment to excellence and continuous learning. His contributions have earned recognition from governmental and non-governmental entities, underscoring his impact in professional, leadership, and community spheres.
