At the School Board Meeting of June 18, 2024, School Board Member Roberto J. Alonso proffered agenda item B-6, recognizing the Hialeah Gardens Senior High School Marching Band for winning the 2A State Championship.
The Gladiators are victorious once again! The Hialeah Gardens High School (HGHS) Gladiator Marching Band was crowned State Champion at the annual Florida Marching Band Championships competition. From November 10 to 12, 2023, thousands of students from around the state gathered in Clearwater, Florida, to compete for rankings and win the title of State Champions. For two years in a row, the Hialeah Gladiator Marching Band outshined the competition, bringing home their second back-to-back championship in the 15-year history of the school’s band program.
Under the talented leadership of the Band’s Captain, Alessandro Di Costanzo, along with leaders Melissa Travieso, Natalie Celdeiro, and Dalena Calvo, the Hialeah Gladiator Marching Band captured the 2A title by surpassing various schools’ scores with their amazing performance “Tales of the Northern Lights.” This is the second consecutive year that Natalie Celdeiro played a major role in the band’s success as part of its leadership team. The 68-member Gladiator Marching Band secured their well-deserved victory by implementing clear communication and collaboration to ensure that the band performed in total synchronization.
The HGHS Gladiator Marching Band Program is supervised by Band Director Joshua E. Guzman who has served in this role for three years. Although Mr. Guzman’s tenure as Band Director has been short, by achieving two consecutive state victories, he has demonstrated a remarkable depth of knowledge and level of skill and competence that can only be found in seasoned professionals.
This resolution celebrates and congratulates all members of the Hialeah Gardens High School Gladiator Marching Band and the entire Hialeah Gardens High School community, including Principal Maritza D. Jimenez and her administrative team. We also recognize past administrators and band directors who laid the foundation for and contributed to the level of excellence and consistency in the Gladiator Marching Band throughout the years.
