The Coral Gables Community Foundation recently awarded $230,000 in community focused grants to non-profit organizations and professional artists vital to preserving the quality of life in Coral Gables. The Community Giving Program is co-chaired by F. David Olazabal and Ashley Cusack.
“These grants were selected to fill the greatest needs of the Coral Gables community,” Cusack said. “We believe these 51 grants and 11 artist awards are investments that have the potential to make South Florida a better place to live, work, learn and play.”
The Community Giving Program reviewed 136 letters of inquiry in April, and narrowed the slate to 89 finalists reviewed by the Grants Committee, which brought the list down to 40 that would receive awards. In all, the Community Giving Program has made 466 grants worth over $1 million since the program was conceived under the leadership of Foundation Board chair Carlos Garcia in 2014.
Giving Committee co-chairs F. David Olazabal and Ashley Cusack presented the grants before a packed courtyard of more than 100 guests at Bachour in Coral Gables on June 7.
Community Giving Program
The Coral Gables Community Foundation Community Giving Program awards grants to deserving local non-profit organizations that address issues within the organization’s focus areas and serve those who live, work, learn and play in Coral Gables. The Community Foundation’s focus areas are Education; Arts and Culture; Environment, Placemaking and Historic Preservation, and Social and Health Services. The next opportunity to apply for grants in the Community Giving Program will be announced in spring 2025.

Tristarr Lifelong Learning Fund
Because “not everyone’s life runs in the same track,” improving access to lifelong learning opportunities is the generous promise of the Tristarr Lifelong Learning Fund at the Coral Gables Community Foundation.
Adults who return to school to study career skills, citizenship, languages and cultural enrichment in Coral Gables and Miami-Dade County will benefit from a visionary, $75,000 gift. Local non-profit organizations are eligible to apply for grants in support of programs for adults who re-enter school. The fund made $75,000 in grants in 2023 and this is its second cohort of grants.
Corral & Cathers Professional Artist Fund
Established by Coral Gables resident and founder of Mosaicist Inc. Ray Corral and Catherine Cathers, arts advocate, the Corral & Cathers Artist Professional Artist Fund at the Coral Gables Community Foundation serves to recognize and support regional artists with grants to further their professional development and skill in a variety of disciplines and mediums.
The Corral & Cathers Artist Fund encourages artists who have dedicated their lives to developing their art. Grants are intended to assist with artistic exploration, supplies, exhibits, project-related expenses, residences, artistic professional development and opportunities.
