The Association of Junior Leagues International Inc. (AJLI) has announced their inaugural 40 Under 40 recognition class.

This initiative aims to celebrate and honor outstanding Junior League Members who have demonstrated exceptional achievements in various fields and careers. Through their unwavering dedication and hard work, they not only have excelled in their respective domains but have also inspired others to reach their full potential and drive positive change in their communities.

Selected from a pool spanning across six countries and 298 leagues, the nominations were outstanding. The winners were recognized at an awards ceremony during the 2024 Annual Conference in New Orleans, LA on May 15.

Leadership: Showcase outstanding leadership in her profession or area of service. Examples included accomplishments, innovations, or a demonstrated commitment to driving positive change.

Community Impact: The nominee should be actively creating a positive impact on her community. The impact can encompass contributions to local organizations, volunteer work, or initiatives that address community needs.

Lucy Foerster

“On behalf of the Junior League of Miami Board of Directors, we were pleased to nominate Lucy Foerster, a long-time Junior League of Miami member — and have her selected for this prestigious award. With nearly 300 Junior Leagues around the world that submitted nominees and Lucy’s receipt of this award speaks volumes of her commitment to volunteering and making an impact within the Miami community through her work with the Junior League of Miami, The Way Forward (formerly known as The Woody Foundation) and numerous other organizations. We are thrilled to have Lucy Foerster as a member of our organization,” said Laura Van Gorden, immediate past president.

Lucy currently is the client relations coordinator at Tonkinson Financial, a role that allows her to help families feel confident with their financial future. For the past 12 years she has also been the executive director for a non-profit called The Way Forward. The organization is dedicated to enhancing the lives of those living with paralysis.

Never shy to explore new opportunities or challenges, Lucy has created, developed, and implemented a youth advocacy program that focuses on inclusion that uses books to level the playing field, started a scholarship program and elevated the Athletes with Disabilities division at the Miami Marathon.

As a proud alumnus from The Hyde School in Bath, ME, Lucy was tapped to help revive an alumni council and has been instrumental in the organizational and strategic planning – a skill she learned from her League experience. Knowing she wanted to learn more about scholarships she joined JLM committee to improve the implementation a higher education scholarship with The Way Forward that was awarded over $8,000 of funds to paralyzed students across the country.

You also can find Lucy volunteering her time with the Junior Orange Bowl, CARE Elementary, Sabrina Cohen Foundation, Hyde School Alumni, Reality Church, and Treemendous Miami.

Founded in 1926, the Junior League of Miami focuses on making a significant impact within the areas of food insecurity, homelessness, family violence, children’s and women’s health, early childhood education, and foster care with the ultimate goal of building a better Miami-Dade County community.
