BROWARD METROPOLITAN PLANNING ORGANIZATION (MPO) COLLABORATES WITH HISTORY FORT LAUDERDALE TO ARCHIVE “LET’S TALK TRANSPORTATION” PODCAST SERIES

In a significant collaboration, Broward Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) and History Fort Lauderdale are joining forces to create an archive of the transportation-oriented podcast series, “Let’s Talk Transportation.” This partnership marks a crucial step in preserving and sharing the rich history of transportation and long-term planning in Broward County.

“Fifty years from now, someone will be listening to our ‘Let’s Talk Transportation’ series, and understand why Mark Gale developed the airport expansion plans, why Coree Cuff Lonergan launched the PREMO Plan, or how Lori Baer impacted Port Everglades’ growth,” said Greg Stuart, executive director of the Broward MPO. “We are creating useful content and that’s why we plan to continue the podcast series that will also be saved for future observation.”

The Broward MPO’s “Let’s Talk Transportation” podcast series delves deep into the world of how the movement of the region’s people and goods have evolved over the years. Hosted by Stuart, the first 30 episodes feature business leaders from Broward County and the surrounding area, who share their expertise on the topic. The podcast has garnered a significant following and has been instrumental in fostering a deeper understanding of transportation issues in our community. Podcast topics include compelling local issues like “The Shifting Landscape of the Everglades,” “Shaping Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport,” The ABCs of Hollywood: Adaptation, Bikes and Commuting,” and “A History of Innovation.” Interviews have included impactful area leaders and experts such as David Dech, executive director of SFRTA/Tri-Rail,  Jenni Morejon, president and CEO of the Fort Lauderdale Downtown Development Authority, Monica Cepero, Broward County administrator, Beam Furr, Broward County commissioner district 6 and Joseph Yesbeck, SVP, rail and transit sector leader, Americas, T.Y. Lin.

Patricia Zeiler, executive director of History Fort Lauderdale and a recent “Let’s Talk Transportation” guest, shared Stuart’s enthusiasm.

“We’re honored to work with Greg Stuart and the Broward MPO,” said Zeiler. “The ‘Let’s Talk Transportation’ podcast series will now live on as a part of history. The 30 recorded podcasts plus future ones will now reside in History Fort Lauderdale’s Oral History Collection and will be available to the public for years to come.”
