Homemade Peanut Butter Dog Treats

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

INGREDIENTS
• 2 cups whole wheat flour
• 1/2 cup creamy peanut butter (make sure it does not contain xylitol, which is toxic to dogs)
• 2 eggs
• 1/2 cup pumpkin puree (unsweetened)
• Optional: 1 tbsp honey (for added sweetness, but it’s optional as some dogs may not need it). Rolled oats or shredded coconut for coating

INSTRUCTIONS
1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the whole wheat flour, creamy peanut butter, eggs, pumpkin puree and honey (if using). Stir until well combined and a dough forms. You
may need to use your hands to knead the dough together.

3. Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to about 1/4 inch thickness. Use a cookie cutter to cut out shapes or simply use a knife to cut the dough into squares or rectangles. Optional: Roll the cut-out treats in rolled oats or shredded coconut to add texture and flavor.

4. Place the treats on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them slightly apart. Bake the treats in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until they are golden brown and firm to the touch.

5. Once baked, remove the treats from the oven and allow them to cool completely on a wire rack.

6. Once cooled, store the homemade dog treats in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two weeks. You can also freeze the treats for longer storage. Treat your furry friend to these homemade peanut butter dog treats as a tasty and nutritious snack!

Note: Always consult with your veterinarian before introducing new foods or treats into your dog’s diet, especially if your dog has any allergies or dietary restrictions. Monitor your dog while they enjoy these treats to ensure they are chewing them safely.

Make sure the peanut butter does not contain xylitol, which is toxic to dogs.
