Miami-Dade Animal Services Announces the Medley Shelter to Open Every Weekend to Encourage Medium and Large Dog Adoptions

Miami-Dade County Animal Services (Animal Services) is excited to announce that, starting Saturday, July 6th, the Medley facility, which was previously open every third Saturday of the month, will now be open every weekend (Saturday and Sunday) from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. for dog adoptions and fosters. This expansion aims to address the overpopulation crisis at the shelter and increase opportunities for our community to adopt loving K-9 companions.

Animal Services currently has over 165 medium to large dogs eagerly waiting for their loving families and available for adoption or foster at the Medley facility. To encourage adoptions, all adoption fees for these dogs will be waived. Each dog comes dewormed, fully vaccinated, microchipped, and sterilized, ensuring they are ready to go to their forever homes.

“Animal Services is experiencing an overpopulation crisis, and many of our medium to large dogs are being overlooked in favor of smaller dogs and puppies. By expanding the Medley facility’s hours, we hope to provide these wonderful dogs with more opportunities to find homes,” said Annette Jose, Director of Miami-Dade County Animal Services. “Adopting a larger dog not only helps alleviate the strain on our shelter but also gives these deserving animals a second chance at a happy life.”

The community is urged to consider opening their hearts and homes to our larger adult dogs, who make fantastic pets and are often more settled and trained than younger dogs.

Please visit Medley or Doral where you are bound to find what you are looking for. By adopting, individuals are making a difference in the lives of animals in need and helping to manage the overpopulation issue. Those interested are invited to visit the Medley facility on weekends and find their new best friend. Together, the community can make a difference in the lives of these animals and give them the loving homes they deserve.
