The Village of Palmetto Bay’s annual July 4th Celebration turned the area around Village Hall into one big patriotic party with food vendors, live music, face painting, stilt walkers, LED robots, and a fun zone with inflatables for the kids.

The event attracted a record crowd, according to village Public Information Officer Robert Treadwell, who originally had anticipated a turnout of 10,000.

“The estimate from our Policing Unit is that we had more than 12,000 people at the event this year,” Treadwell said. “Most guests came out in the early evening because of the heat, but by the time we launched our fireworks show, the crowd appeared to be the biggest we had ever seen.”

The event, which began at 5 p.m. and ran until 9 p.m., ending with an explosive 15-minute fireworks show set to music, was safe and without problems. The fireworks were launched from Palmetto Bay Park, and the free event was organized by the Parks & Recreation Department.

Katerina Morin, a 16-year-old sophomore at Palmer Trinity School and a member of the Miami Children’s Chorus, sang the National Anthem, and live music by local band Cutler Stew added to the evening’s fun. Village Mayor Karyn Cunningham and the village council attended.

“It was amazing,” Mayor Cunningham said after the event.
