In 1998, the Zoo Miami Wildlife Conservation Fund was created to promote efforts toward conservation of wildlife and natural ecosystems throughout the world.
The year 2024 marks the 27th anniversary of this fund awarding grants to individuals, governments, and non-profits locally and internationally to help fulfill a mission “to inspire people through engaging experiences to preserve nature in South Florida and across the globe.”
As always, the fund received applications from across the globe asking to support many worthy and impactful programs. Zoo Miami’s Conservation Committee conducted the final selection for this year and the winning applications follow. They are:
“Frogs and Me: Science and Community Empathy” — Grupo Rana
“Paying it Forward in the Realm of the Jaguar” — Jaguar Identification Project
“Rehabilitating Sick and Injured Sea Turtles at the Sea Turtle Healing Center” — East Coast Zoological Society Of Florida
“Living Planet River Otter Conservation” — Loveland Living Planet Aquarium
“An Overview of the Status and Correlates of Sloth Bear in Deukhuri Valley Dang, Nepal” — Environment Protection and Study Center
