Cutler Ridge Woman’s Club working to help community

Despite challenges, the Cutler Ridge Woman’s Club (CRWC) is actively working to help people in the community by participating in several projects.

CRWC president Jean Tong-Noon reported that many of her friends and workers at East Ridge at Cutler Bay retirement community have been hit by COVID, and the recent weather conditions haven’t helped with activities either.

“Cutler Ridge Woman’s Club is taking part again in the National Day of Service,” Tong-Noon said. “Members got together and bought food items to donate. With Hurricane Helene on the way, we got ahead of it all and delivered the food items to BelAire Elementary in support of their kids and gave the incentives requested by their teachers. Their new principal Ms. [Laurellynn Morrison-] Young joined in receiving the goodies.”

One of the club’s other projects, something that they have been doing every year to show support for the Cutler Bay Policing Unit, was to provide 40 teddy bears that had been bought by CRWC members Hermeine (Minnie) Gibson and Janet Shipes. Officers carry a few of the cuddly toys in the trunks of their patrol cars so when they respond to incidents where small children are involved the teddy bears can be given to the youngsters to help comfort them at a difficult moment.

The Cutler Ridge Woman’s Club was founded in 1956 and is one of the oldest organizations in continuous operation in Cutler Bay.
