Former CIA officer helps young adults prepare for dangers they may face
Dale Bendler

Young adults are facing more anxiety than ever when it comes to navigating modern day life. Dale Bendler, a former CIA officer and Miami resident, is on a mission to help young people prepare for all the dangers they may encounter.

As a father of three, this all hits home for Bendler. These are all the areas about which Bendler talks to college students and young adults:

Cyber — Cyber safety focuses on the most common threatening young people: mobile phone theft; AI, internet and hate/bullying, sexploitation, and online dating.

Active shooter — Teaching young people how to improve the odds of survival should the worst happen: Run, Hide, Fight. This has happened all too often on college campuses over the past few years.

Physical assaults — Learn how to avoid trouble in the first place but should trouble find them at no fault of their own, he wants them to get home to their families.

Drink spiking — This is a longtime problem not just at bars, but on campus as well; the threat has become even more dangerous with the arrival of lethal fentanyl onto the scene. Unfortunately, this is a big issue in Miami.

Demonstrations and mobs — A peaceful protest (like the ones held recently on college campuses) can turn nasty in a flash.

Transportation — From rideshare to Metrorail safety, you need to know how to avoid becoming a victim. You also need to be aware carjacking and road rage are prevalent in Miami.

Stalking — What to do if you know (or even think) you are being stalked on foot or in a vehicle.

“I may never know we saved someone’s life. Maybe they got a bad feeling from a party they attended, so they departed. Perhaps they avoided getting into the wrong rideshare or they didn’t click on a weird email. I am fine with not knowing if I helped,” Bendler said.

Bendler works with people in person and through his ONE.61 Young Adult Safety online course.

After 37 years with the CIA, where he rose to the executive ranks, Dale Bendler felt a strong desire to give back. He is now the chair of ONE.61 Cyber and Urban Safety Company, a veteran-owned and operated LLC based in Miami.

At ONE.61, Bendler focuses on proactive strategies to help individuals and their families avoid trouble, whether online or on the street. He emphasizes the importance of safety awareness and practical measures, ensuring that if trouble does arise, individuals are equipped to get home safely.

Bendler holds a BA from Rutgers University and an MA from the Naval War College.

Throughout his distinguished career at CIA, he has received numerous awards and medals, and, while serving in the U.S. Marines, he graduated from elite, demanding military training, including Ranger and Airborne Schools. With over 20 years spent overseas in some of the world’s most dangerous locations, Bendler brings a wealth of experience and insight to his work.
