Fall has brought on a plethora of community global outreach programs and Rotarians are making their mark on many.
Coming up next, the Rotary Club of Coral Gables brings us a concert fundraiser on Friday, Nov. 22, at Steinway Piano Gallery, 4104 Ponce de Leon Blvd. The affair will feature an internationally acclaimed pianist touring from Italy, Francesco Attesti. As an interesting note, Attesti has been a Rotarian in Italy since 2001.
Tickets, at $50 per person, include a reception with an open bar and hors d’oeuvres at 6 p.m., followed by the concert at 7:30 p.m. This is an event music lovers will not want to miss. Proceeds will benefit RCCG’s international projects.
Helping to coordinate the affair in the absence of International Committee chair Carol Brock is RCCG past president Yolanda Woodbridge. For tickets or more information on RCCG’s Francesco Attesti concert, send email to rotarycoralgables@gmail.com.
Farther south, the Rotary Club of Pinecrest held its Socktober campaign collecting mountains of new socks for homeless men and women receiving assistance at the Miami Rescue Mission. On Oct. 29, this successful drive wrapped up with club members visiting the Rescue Mission to serve the homeless a nutritious meal and gifting each a new pair of socks.
For club members, it was a blessing to help and be there in person to hand out the socks.
Among the members attending were Gary Klieger, Shirley Pardon, Hugo Montaudon, Noreen Timoney, Elizabeth Tran, Arlene Terrinoni, Robert Bull and Eytan McManus.
Paws4you’s Howloween took place Oct. 19 and raised $5,000 with its first nighttime event at Palmetto Bay Park. While dollars raised were down with the new date and location, spirits were high with 600 people attending and lots of fun had by all. Plans are already underway for the fundraising gala in 2025 and numerous other adoption events every month.
Look for PAWS4you’s CEO and founder Carol Caridad to be a guest on Gloria’s Gab LIVE, Tuesday, Dec. 10, to learn more or visit Paws4you.org and its work that has rescued so many dogs over the years.
In other news, Coral Gables Woman’s Club’s Gringo Bingo will return to Grand Living in Coral Gables, 363 Granello Ave., with proceeds being shared with the Alzheimer’s Association and then, on Dec. 10, Rita Tennyson will host the event at Birdie Bistro (formerly Burger Bob’s) that just opened after a huge renovation. Tickets for the next event include food, one drink, 13 game cards, music by DJ Germain, and lots of fun with emcee Steven Bradley, the Gringo.
For reservations or more information, send email to gloria@cnews.net. Proceeds will benefit CGWC many outreach efforts.
By the way, Give Miami Day is coming up Nov. 21, but you can start giving now. Be sure to support your favorite charities by making donations.
Kudos to Team Hurricanes. This University of Miami team is the largest one participating in the Dolphins Cancer Challenge (DCC) on Feb.. 22, 2025. Last year this team raised more than $12 million making a substantial impact on the fight against cancer. They are asking once again help in supporting this effort. Patty Vila, CEO of Patty Vila Media, and Danay Rodriguez-Arritola, chief nursing officer of Larkin Community Hospital Palm Springs Campus, were featured recently on the front cover of Community Newspapers’ Inspire Health magazine. To celebrate, this dynamic duo hosted a lovely reception at the CN offices to share their good fortune with more than 50 clients, VIPs and friends on Oct. 29. Among the many attending were Elizabeth La Rosa, Jessica Joseph, Lynn Bauer, Dr. Hal Wanless, Ruth Martinez, Meredeth McKissick, and Nick Silverio, to mention a few.
There are several dates to save for December including The Villager Home Tour on Saturday, Dec. 7. The Villagers president, Kelley Schild, will be my guest on Gloria’s Gab LIVE, 10 a.m., on Tuesday, Nov. 19.
Also, a date to put on your calendar is Dec. 15 for the 76th Junior Orange Bowl Holiday Parade. Tickets for the grandstands already are on sale at the Junior Orange Bowl’s Eventbrite page. Jr. OB president Michael Green was a guest on Gloria’s Gab LIVE show on Tuesday, Nov. 12. All the video podcasts are recorded and available to view on our CN website at www.communitynewspapers.com.
Finally, South Florida PBS has brought an event to Florida you will not want to miss. Starting this month and running through April 2025, you can step into the visionary world of Leonardo Da Vinci with an immersive art experience.
The groundbreaking technology for this experience was transported directly from Amsterdam where Jenny Azcuy, SFPBS’s vice president of Communications and Marketing traveled to coordinate the planning. The stage for this immersive experience is in Boynton Beach where South Florida PBS is headquartered and brings alive DaVinci’s genius in art, science, mathematics and engineering.
Sponsorships are available to transport school students to participate and more than 10 schools already have signed up with transportation underwritten even before the event opened. Check out my interview with Jenny Azcuy recorded on Nov. 5 on Gloria’s Gab LIVE available at www.cnews.net under podcasts.
For more information or tickets for the experience, visit www.PBSDaVinci.org.
Until next time, share your time and talents, count your blessings, and make a difference.
