Brazilian award-winning animator Karla Caprali, based in Miami, has announced a unique collaboration with the musical duo Hobuco, featuring violinist Belinda Niling Stohner and composer Oscar Bustillo.

Together, they are creating a 12-minute short film titled Rumpelstiltskin Meets Mozart, a captivating musical adventure that blends orchestral music, narration, and animation.

Caprali directs and animates the film, which aims to shatter the common misconception that classical music is dull or merely background noise for studying and relaxation.

Rumpelstiltskin Meets Mozart vividly demonstrates the energy and excitement of classical music, introducing audiences to themes from Mozart’s famous Symphony No. 40 in G minor in a refreshingly engaging way. Through a dynamic fusion of music and visual storytelling, the film promises a new perspective even for seasoned classical music fans.

Caprali, Stohner, and Bustillo currently are running a GoFundMe campaign to raise the funds needed to complete the film. Until now, Rumpelstiltskin Meets Mozart has been performed in various languages across North America and Asia, though only with a string quartet or chamber orchestra. The campaign aims to fund the recording of the narration with a full orchestra, as well as the mixing, mastering, and animation expenses.

“Orchestras are very costly to hire…as they should be,” said Stohner, the film’s music director.

Rumpelstiltskin Meets Mozart is not Caprali’s first film featuring the work of violinist Stohner. In 2021, they collaborated on an animated short film titled Light with Oscar “The Biscayne Poet” Fuentes. Light was showcased at prestigious film festivals, including the Berlin International Art Film Festival, London Short Film Festival, and Miami Film Festival.

Most recently, Caprali won Best Animation at the Subculture Film Festival for The Kitchin, a stop-motion animation created in collaboration with the Vizcaya Museum and Gardens. The Kitchin includes Stohner’s folksy reimagining of Camille Saint-Saëns’ The Swan.
The film is set to be released at the end of 2025.
