On February 24, 2022, the day Ukraine was invaded by Russia, Dnipro resident Tania Gold arrived in Miami, completely unaware of what had just transpired in her homeland.

“I had a return ticket for March 1st, but that quickly became irrelevant,” says Tania. “A dear friend initially hosted me, but it became clear that staying there long-term wouldn’t be possible. Left with only $500, a carry-on bag, blocked bank accounts and no job, I found myself stranded.”

Thus began an ordeal that only someone as resourceful and energetic as she could navigate successfully, but Tania did just that. She found housing through a non-profit that provides help to Ukrainians. The organization paired her with Miamians Peter and Keren Rabbino, with whom she has formed a strong friendship.

“Peter and Keren are like my second family,” she says, explaining that her parents and son still live in Ukraine. “They supported me as I faced countless challenges such as finding work, learning English, deciphering government documents and understanding the rules, laws and culture of the United States. They even helped with a job.”

Because her strong work ethic traveled with her to the United States, Tania wasted no time in becoming a productive Miamian. Recently, while living under temporary protected status here as a Ukrainian refugee, she founded Artistic Voices, a non-profit organization dedicated to fostering an appreciation for classical music and opera in the greater Miami community. The organization is funded through private donations and is participating in Give Miami Day here.

“Artistic Voices is dedicated to supporting local classical musicians and opera singers by providing them with opportunities to perform in public,” explains Tania. “Our artistic season will begin soon and concerts and recitals will occur on a monthly basis, year-round.”

When she isn’t leading Artistic Voices, Tania also works as an Executive Event Manager with the Florida Grand Opera, combining her skills in management with her love for the arts.

Before coming to America, Tania earned three college degrees and worked in management in large information technology companies. Prior to that, she had a successful career as an opera singer in Ukraine and Europe, but after losing her voice, she transitioned into the corporate world and started her own business, UkrainianArtWorks.com, to help Ukrainians share their artwork with the world.

“I am blessed to be here in America, living in peace and safety that are not available in Ukraine,” says Tania. “Giving back to the community that welcomed me through Artistic Voices is an honor and a joy for me.”
