At the School Board Meeting of December 11, 2024, School Board Member Danny Espino, District 5, proffered agenda item B-4, recognizing Mrs. Elizabeth Dager as the Special Olympics Florida 2024 Coach of the Year.
Elizabeth Dager, a dedicated and compassionate coach, educator, and advocate for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, was named Special Olympics Florida 2024 Coach of the Year for her tireless support and unwavering commitment to the athletes of Special Olympics. A proud Doral and District 5 resident, she serves as the Athletic Director of Our Pride Academy in Miami, where she has been instrumental in developing one of the largest and most successful athletic programs for individuals with special needs in the State. Under her leadership, more than 100 athletes participate in a variety of sports. Her leadership extends beyond the pool, courts, and fields as she inspires fellow educators to foster an environment of dignity, inclusion, and human flourishing for all students.
Mrs. Dager has served as a coach for over 15 years, excelling in multiple sports including swimming, softball, basketball, rhythmic gymnastics, cheerleading, flag football, powerlifting, and track and field. As a certified Special Olympics coach, she demonstrates unmatched versatility and expertise in her field. She has consistently demonstrated exceptional sportsmanship, compassion, and dedication, regularly participating in fundraising events such as the Race for Inclusion, the Torch Icon Campaign, and Special Olympics USA Games fundraisers. Additionally, she served as a coach for Team Florida’s Aquatics team at the 2022 Special Olympics USA Games.
Mrs. Dager’s unwavering commitment to helping all athletes reach their full potential serves as an inspiration to her community. Her contributions to the Special Olympics organization exemplify the true spirit of coaching, mentorship, and inclusivity. Elizabeth Dager’s commitment to the Special Olympics community is part of her family’s legacy, as her son, Ricky, is also a Special Olympics Florida Athlete Leader and a standout swimmer.
This resolution honors Mrs. Elizabeth Dager as Special Olympics Florida’s 2024 Coach of the Year. We celebrate her as a beacon of inspiration and service to the community and extend our heartfelt gratitude for her remarkable impact on the lives of athletes of all abilities in Miami-Dade County and the entire State of Florida.
