Gucci welcomes the holiday season in the Miami Design District (MDD) with a captivating installation at Sweet Bird North Plaza celebrating the House’s travel-inspired heritage.
Open through Jan. 7, the installation draws inspiration from enchanted snow globes, blending iconic Gucci luggage with miniature depictions of landmarks like Palazzo Gucci in Florence and the Wooster Street boutique in NYC.
Located between Gucci’s two boutiques in the Miami Design District, the activation will provide a complimentary offering to surprise and delight this season. Ice cream from local favorite Peel and coffee and baked goods from an Italian Bakery, Rosetta, will be available during select periods as well as weekend coloring activities for children.
Adding to the festive ambiance, Gucci unveils an Art Walls series by American artist Corydon Cowansage. Cowansage’s three murals reinterpret her signature style, merging abstraction and sensuality. These works, also featured at Miami Art Basel, honor trailblazing women artists.
At the heart of this creation lies a nod to founder Guccio Gucci’s early days as a porter at The Savoy hotel in London where he first encountered the luggage that would later inspire the founding of his own boutique in Florence.
Gucci’s renowned luggage pieces, ranging from elegant suitcases to grand trunks embossed with the distinctive GG Monogram, are brought to life against a backdrop of intricately designed miniature buildings. These animated scenes represent key locations in Gucci’s history, including Palazzo Gucci, located in Palazzo della Mercanzia in Florence, the Wooster Street boutique in New York City, and the flagship stores on Avenue Montaigne in Paris and New Bond Street in London.
To complement the festive celebration, Sweet Bird North Plaza is hosting an expanded Gucci takeover featuring a series of Art Walls. The House has collaborated with American artist Corydon Cowansage to create three murals, located between the square and Gucci’s boutique. Known for her opulent compositions that blur the lines between abstraction and figuration, Cowansage adapted one of her existing works for these installations.
Her murals feature biomorphic shapes and a lush, vibrant palette, incorporating sensual, undulating forms that create a sense of depth and movement. Against a pale blue background, these shapes, reminiscent of floating lips, seem to protrude from the surface, some smiling, others provocatively distorted, reflecting the legacy of pioneering women artists like Judy Chicago and Zilia Sanchez who redefined femininity through anatomical biomorphic abstraction. Cowansage’s murals at the plaza align with her participation at Miami Art Basel, where her work will be shown at the Kaufmann Repetto gallery booth.
In recent days, Gucci also illuminated the façade of Palazzo Gucci in Florence, creating a harmonious celebration that spans from Miami to Italy. The Florentine façade will remain lit until Jan. 17, celebrating the House’s Florentine roots and contributing to the holiday spirit.
