On Friday, January 10, 2025, Juan Fernandez-Barquin, Esq., was officially sworn in as the Clerk of the Court and Comptroller of Miami-Dade County during his investiture ceremony held at the Miami-Dade County Board of County Commission Chambers. The event, attended by family, friends, colleagues, and distinguished guests, marked a momentous occasion for Fernandez-Barquin and the community he serves.
The highlight of the ceremony was the formal swearing-in, conducted by his mother, Milagros R. Vazquez, Esq., in a heartfelt moment that underscored the significance of family and tradition.
“This is a role of immense responsibility, and I am honored to serve the people of Miami-Dade County with integrity, transparency, and commitment,” Fernandez-Barquin stated during his inaugural remarks. “When I stepped into this office, I stood in the shadow of the legendary Harvey Ruvin, who served this community for over 30 years. Over my tenure, I have come to realize that this office is more than just a workplace—it is a multigenerational family, one that I am committed to strengthening for generations to come. I will work tirelessly to ensure that our Clerk’s office upholds the highest standards of public trust and accountability.”
Fernandez-Barquin expressed his gratitude to the various divisions and departments under the Clerk’s Office, including Criminal, Felony, Misdemeanor, Traffic, Parking Violations Bureau, Juvenile, Civil, Foreclosures and Tax Deeds, District Courts (North Dade and South Dade Justice Centers, Hialeah and Miami Beach District Courts, and the Joseph Caleb Center Court), Family, Probate, Mental Health, Domestic Violence, Jury Duty, Marriage Licenses, Central Depository, Clerk of the Board, Procurement, County Recorder, Value Adjustment Board, Code Enforcement Collections, Records Management, Technical Services, Budget Team, Human Resources, Clerk Finance, Court Finance, and the Audit Division.
“Each of you represents the face of this office,” he said, emphasizing the collective commitment required to fulfill the office’s mission. “You represent me, the name on that seal, and this county.”
The ceremony also celebrated Fernandez-Barquin’s vision for modernizing and enhancing the services provided by the Clerk’s Office. His leadership is poised to blend technological innovation with a focus on accessibility and community engagement, ensuring that the office remains a trusted and efficient resource for Miami-Dade residents.
As Clerk of the Court and Comptroller, Fernandez-Barquin assumes responsibility for a wide range of essential functions, including maintaining court records, overseeing county finances, and promoting government transparency. His commitment to justice, service, and integrity assures the residents of Miami-Dade County that the Clerk’s Office will remain in capable hands.
The investiture of Clerk Fernandez-Barquin was more than a ceremonial occasion—it was a reaffirmation of the principles that define the role: dedication, responsibility, and a deep commitment to the community.
