Miami Christian students shine in the arts, sports

Miami Christian School applauds various members of its student body who were recent standouts.

Maegan Solis, a Miami Christian School senior, participated in the Florida All-State Reading Chorus that required she thoroughly study and master a piece of literature, often analyzing it for meaning, rhythm, tone, and emotional depth. To audition for this, she had to take a written musicianship test, a sight-singing, and a vocal quality audition on the All-State music.

She was one of seven students in the state who received a perfect score. This level of intellectual and artistic commitment requires discipline and dedication. High school students who succeed in this competition demonstrate a rare combination of skills — literary analysis, vocal performance, and teamwork — making their success even more prestigious. As a freshman, Megan also made it to the reading choir, no easy feat.

FVA’s All-State Chorusesare a part of the annual Florida Music Education Association Professional Development Conference. The All-State Choruses are highly select groups of choral students from Florida’s middle/junior high and senior high schools who are brought together for the purposes of rehearsing and performing selected music with guest conductors.

Another stand out, MCS senior Armaan Khiyani, has designed his own line of clothing that is sold online in Nordstrom Rack and Saks Off 5th -Armaan Khiyani’s Collection. Armaan also has been working with the Poona School and Home for the Blind in Pune, India.

Armaan is involved in fundraising for them and generously donates 1 percent of the sale of his collection to that school.

On the sports front, MCS Varsity Girls’ Basketball Team held its Senior Night to honor the two seniors team members, Evelyn Isaac Russell and Maria De Gracia. Team coach Chanel Davila also is to be congratulated on having coached the team to a winning season. She now looks forward to playoffs as the season draws to a close
