Miami Southridge alumni, take note! We hear from Linda Moskowitz that “The 25 Year Reunion for the Miami Southridge Class of ‘87 will take place July 21, 2012 at the Peacock Garden Cafe in Coconut Grove starting at 6 p.m.” It’s located next to the Sonesta Hotel. Cutler Bay’s annual Whispering Pines Fourth of Juy Parade and picnic was another great event, as usual, and definitely a good old fashioned “small town” feel good happening. Congrats to organizers and all who participated.

Are you a Blues fan? We hear that Blues concert documentary feature ‘Music From The Big House’ begins its run on Friday July 20 at the O-Cinema, with an appearance by Rita Chiarelli. Show time is 9pm. MUSIC FROM THE BIG HOUSE follows Blues artist Rita Chiarelli as she endeavors to meet the musician inmates at Louisiana State Penitentiary, aka Angola Prison, and ultimately puts on a concert with them, working with Canadian director Bruce McDonald to film it. Veteran Kendall observer (and ex-coun-y official) mulling over efforts to petition for incorporation in Kendall, whispers in for incorporation in Kendall, whispers in our ear: “What’s going to happen is coalition of Kendall groups to get the job done…watch for it – it’s in the works now!”

Last word on KFHA’s special Committee on Incorporation formed after Commissioners lifted the five-year moratorium against considering new applications for cityhood: “We are holding off until the Commission gives us some direction of how we can do it. No one knows yet,” says KFHA President Michael Rosenberg. Don’t hold your breath, Mike, at least until the Aug. 14 mayoral primary is over – and even then, who knows?

Walmart gets plenty of negative press, every time it makes a new store move so let’s “keep fair and balanced” by reporting that the company recently awarded $691,000 in grants to various non-profits in Florida, including $100,000 to the Homestead-based Farm Share program that won KFHA support for distributing outdated produce to the area’s hungry.
