There is still time to visit the DaVinci Immersive Art Experience through April. This is an entertaining, educational and over-the-top experience you will not want to miss. The event is staged in and adjacent to the South Florida PBS offices in Boynton Beach. Speaking from experience, it is worth the drive. This has been an unforgettable program for hundreds of school students who have already attended and is a terrific road trip for groups. South Florida PBS is always bringing great programs our way and there may be more immersive experiences coming up in the future. For more information or to buy tickets for DaVinci, visit www.southfloridapbs.org.
In other news, the Rotary Club of Coral Gables takes a break from volunteer events every 5th Friday for a social hosted by a club member. January’s 5th Friday, the 31st, was held at the store of RCCG Past President Carlos Bolado and Jose Bolado at J Bolado Clothiers. While everyone, especially the men, enjoyed checking out the exquisite suits, shirts and accessories, they also enjoyed fellowship and some great food and drinks. This club meets weekly for lunch at the Hyatt Regency Coral Gables and visiting Rotarians are always welcomed but they request an RSVP. Lunch is $47 and every meeting offers wonderful speakers. Most recently, the founder and CEO of A Safe Haven for Newborns Nick Silverio, impressed the club members with the amazing work the non-profit is doing to save babies from abandonment and possible death in attention to helping pregnant women before and after births including aiding with adoption if that is the women’s choice. Golfers will want to register for ASHFN’s annual golf tournament at Trump Resort on May 16, 2025. See info below.
Speaking of charity events, Coral Gables Community Foundation sold a record 830 plus tickets for this year’s Tour of the Kitchens held February 8, 2025. The event draws people from all over South Florida and has become a favorite full day affair. With 11 home kitchens on the tour, it was certainly CGCF’s best tour ever. Guests enjoyed tantalizing food that began with breakfast items and Mimosas and coffees at Merrick Park for registration and carried on to every home with various restaurants and chefs providing mouth-watering dishes at each stop. Look for more on this event in this issue. Kudos to the Tour of the Kitchens Event Chair Xavier Durana, CGCF CEO Mary Snow and the many staff and volunteers who made this such a remarkable success.
On the literary front, best-selling author, James Grippando, addressed a packed house at Coral Gables Congregational Church recently helping the Philanthropic Education Organization (PEO) raise funds to help assistance with educational goals of women having distributed more than $435 million in assistance though 6 philanthropies and one Foundation. PEO supporters and Grippando’s many fans not only enjoyed a lovely reception before the program but also had a chance to have their books signed. Grippando’s most recent book, Grave Danger, is another thriller featuring his legendary criminal defense attorney Jack Swyteck who defends a single mother accused of kidnapping her own child in a perilous international case. If you missed this event, Books and Books probably has signed copies.
