With profound sadness, we share the passing of Mark A. Trowbridge, a cherished leader, mentor, and friend, who left us on February 21, 2025, at the age of 56. Mark’s warmth, humor, and unwavering dedication to his community made him an irreplaceable presence in the lives of so many.
For nearly two decades, Mark served as the President and CEO of the Coral Gables Chamber of Commerce, where he worked tirelessly to support businesses, foster meaningful connections, and uplift the local economy. His leadership was defined not just by his accomplishments, but by the genuine relationships he built along the way. Whether he was welcoming a new entrepreneur, organizing beloved community events, or simply sharing a laugh with colleagues, Mark had a gift for making people feel valued and included.
A proud graduate of the University of Florida, Mark’s passion for his alma mater was evident in everything he did. He also shared his enthusiasm for sports through his work in sports management and his involvement in major events, bringing the same level of energy and dedication to his roles outside of the Chamber.
Mark also made an impact through the power of conversation. For more than five years, he co-hosted a podcast with Grant Miller of Community Newspapers, engaging with local leaders, businesses, and residents to celebrate the heart of Coral Gables. In recognition of his lasting influence, the podcast was recently renamed Mark of Distinction, a name that perfectly reflects the legacy he leaves behind.
Michael and Grant Miller, his close friends and collaborators, shared, “Mark had a remarkable ability to bring people together and lift them up. His passion for this city was infectious, and his absence will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him.”
Beyond his professional life, Mark found joy in the simple things—especially the time spent with his closest friends. One of his favorite traditions was meeting up with “the posse”—Mark, Wayne, Grant, Michael, and Dave from Arbetter’s Hot Dogs—every Sunday at 11 a.m. They would chow down on hot dogs, fries, the world famous Trowbridge Tater Tots and other “low-calorie” treats while joking around and engaging in more political trash-talking than one could imagine. They laughed at their double chins, balding heads, and ever-expanding waistlines, reveling in the kind of camaraderie that only true friends share. These gatherings, which lasted just over an hour, always ended the same way—with a simple, “Nice seeing you,” and the satisfaction of having spent time with friends. “This was truly our Boy’s Club, and we will miss it so very much.”
Even in the face of health challenges, including his courageous battle with multiple myeloma, Mark remained a source of positivity and strength. In his honor, Coral Gables City Hall will be illuminated in burgundy, raising awareness for the disease and paying tribute to a man who gave so much to his community.
Mark is survived by his loving mother, devoted family members, and countless friends who will carry his memory forward. His kindness, humor, and generous spirit will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him.
To celebrate his life and commitment to others, donations can be made in Mark’s name to the New World School of the Arts or The Children’s Trust—organizations that reflect his dedication to enriching lives.
Mark, your laughter, leadership, and love for this community will never be forgotten. You will always be missed, but never replaced.
