The City of South Miami’s mayor and commissioners on Feb. 4 honored Alfredo Riverol, the city’s chief financial officer, with flowers to congratulate him on receiving the esteemed Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) Triple Crown Award.

The prestigious recognition celebrates his exceptional achievements in financial reporting, budgeting, and transparency. It underscores the city’s ongoing dedication to upholding the highest standards of financial management, accountability, and transparency, strengthening trust and confidence among both taxpayers and stakeholders.

The GFOA Triple Crown represents an exceptional achievement in three key areas:
Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting: This award honors the city for producing an Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) that adheres to the highest standards of accounting and financial reporting.

Distinguished Budget Presentation Award: The city was recognized for preparing a budget document that exemplifies clarity, comprehensiveness, and transparency, ensuring accessibility for both elected officials and the public.

Popular Annual Financial Reporting Award (PAFR): This award is granted to entities that effectively communicate complex financial data to a general audience in an easy-to-understand format, providing the public with a clear understanding of the city’s financial position.
Receiving the GFOA Triple Crown is a rare and prestigious distinction, with fewer than 360 public entities across the United States earning this recognition each year. The City of South Miami is one of only five municipalities in Miami-Dade County to have achieved this honor. This accomplishment further solidifies the city’s commitment to fiscal responsibility, financial transparency, and effective communication with the public.

“This achievement demonstrates our unwavering commitment to upholding the highest standards in financial reporting, budgeting, and transparency,” Riverol said. “The Triple Crown recognition reflects the city’s dedication to ensuring that our financial operations are not only accurate and well-managed, but also accessible and understandable to all members of our community.”
The city’s continued success in receiving the GFOA Triple Crown underscores the importance of maintaining public trust through transparency and clear communication about the city’s financial operations.

“Thank you to our finance team for their tireless efforts, attention to detail, and collaboration. Your hard work has significantly enhanced the city’s reputation for financial excellence and transparency,” Riverol said.
