New Advanced HAL® S3201 multipurpose patient simulator meets critical need for evidence-based healthcare training
Broward Health celebrated the new state-of-the-art Advanced Training Sim Lab opening at Broward Health Medical Center with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The event marked the addition of the Advanced HAL® S3201 multipurpose patient simulator, designed to replicate real-life medical scenarios with high detail. This cutting-edge simulator, also known as a high-fidelity medical dummy, offers a realistic, accurate representation of medical situations, providing healthcare professionals with the opportunity to train in a controlled, risk-free environment.

“The new simulator allows us to immerse our nurses in scenarios they may encounter in their day-to-day procedures,” said Manny Linares, CEO of Broward Health Medical Center. “Simulation is an evidence-based approach that enhances clinical skills, strengthens critical thinking and contributes to better patient outcomes. As a Level I trauma hospital, we’re thrilled to offer this advanced training tool to our clinicians as part of our commitment to providing the highest quality care to our community.”
The simulator is designed to replicate real-life medical scenarios, reflecting a variety of medical conditions and physiological verbal responses, including changes in breathing, heart rate and vital signs. Equipped with features that offer both immersive and dynamic learning experiences, the simulator enables healthcare professionals to practice basic procedures, such as intubation and central line insertion, up to and including high-pressure situations like code blues and rapid responses.
The simulator can be used across a range of clinical situations, including:
- Code blue and rapid response defibrillation, which allows for realistic defibrillation training by monitoring, capturing, pacing and cardioverting
- Advanced airway management, including a programable airway that can simulate conditions such as tongue edema and laryngospasm
- Drug recognition system that automatically detects the type, dose and rate of medication injected into the lower right arm, using a pre-programmed library of virtual medications
- Real-time feedback that is integrated into the system, tracking and logging trainee actions to enable instructors to offer instant, data-driven feedback
- Advanced cardiac and neuro features, such as real-time ECGs with physiological variations and reactive eyes, simulating a range of conditions, including seizures
Simulation-based training provides real-life clinical experiences that ultimately improve patient safety and outcomes while also reinforcing the confidence of healthcare professionals.
The simulator will primarily support Broward Health Medical Center’s nursing staff, but others who benefit from the simulator include emergency medical technicians and clinicians in the Intensive Care Unit, operating room and medical-surgical departments. The versatile simulator offers a risk-free environment to practice essential skills and improve clinical judgement.
“By integrating the simulator into the training curriculum, Broward Health Medical Center has taken education to a higher level. The simulator is an unparalleled level of training,” said Donna Small, chief nursing officer at Broward Heath Medical Center. “Simulation allows caregivers to practice complex procedures and decision-making skills in high-pressure scenarios, all while receiving timely feedback and support from expert instructors.”
