City Commission Appoints Rickelle Williams as City Manager

The Fort Lauderdale City Commission has officially appointed Rickelle Williams to serve as the next city manager. Williams, a highly accomplished public administrator, will assume the role on April 2, 2025. 

Williams was unanimously selected as the top finalist by the City Commission and a Commission-appointed City Manager Search Committee as part of an extensive national search. She brings a wealth of experience in municipal government, affordable housing and homeless services, economic and community development, capital projects, and public-private partnerships.

 

Mayor Dean Trantalis welcomed Williams to the City’s leadership team, expressing confidence in her ability to drive positive change and promote stability. 

“I am so excited to welcome Rickelle Williams as Fort Lauderdale’s new city manager,” the mayor said. “She is an energetic and dynamic addition to the leadership team who comes in with fresh perspective as well as a wealth of experience in dealing with issues of great importance to our community. With her help, we will continue on the track of ensuring a bright future for our increasingly cosmopolitan city.” 

Williams currently serves as assistant city manager for the City of Miami Beach, where she has overseen Miami Beach Convention Center operations, two community redevelopment agencies, and key departments, including Economic Development, Housing & Community Services, Parking, Planning & Zoning, Transportation & Mobility, and Tourism & Culture. Her leadership in Miami Beach also included serving as Interim City Manager with management of over 2,200 employees, including direct oversight of Police, Fire, and Finance departments. 

“I am honored to serve as the next City Manager for Fort Lauderdale and eager to work alongside the City Commission, staff, and community to build on the momentum here,” Williams said. “Fort Lauderdale is a dynamic city, and I look forward to helping shape its future with innovative, community-focused solutions based on strategic priorities.” 

Williams earned a Master of Public Administration (MPA) and a graduate certificate in Community Development from Florida International University and a Master of Arts in Mass Communication from the University of Florida.
