On June 12, 2025, Ambassador Jaime Lacadena, Consul General of Spain in Miami, presented the Cross of Officer of the Royal Order of Isabel la Católica to U.S. Century Bank board member Aida Levitan, Ph.D., on behalf of Spanish King Felipe VI. The award ceremony took place at the consular residence in Coral Gables, during a reception hosted by the Consul General and his wife, Macarena López-Roberts, Marchioness of la Torre Hermosa.
Created by King Ferdinand VII in 1815, the Order includes several ranks. The Officer’s Cross of this Order is awarded to individuals who have provided significant service to the nation of Spain. Ambassador Lacadena described Aida Levitan’s many activities benefiting Spain, such as directing the Hispanic Heritage Festival, the Seville Fair in Miami in 1994 and 1995, the Spain Fair in Miami in 1997, and other projects. Her doctorate also specialized in Golden Age literature.
Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniela Levine Cava recognized Dr. Levitan’s cultural work on behalf of Miami residents. Dr. Levitan spoke emotionally about her love for Spain, its literature and art, and about the history of Isabella the Catholic Queen, whom she described as a “strong woman” who chose her husband, broke the mold of the era, protected artists and writers, and demonstrated her physical and moral courage.
Dr. Levitan serves on the board of U.S. Century Bank, which has $2.7 billion in assets and is one of the largest community banks headquartered in Miami and the state of Florida. She served as chairman of the board from 2017 to 2021.
Among the guests at the reception were: Luis de la Aguilera, chairman, president and CEO, U.S. Century Bank; Martha Guerra-Kattou, EVP, U.S. Century Bank; Madeline Pumariega, president, Miami-Dade College; Alex Mena, executive editor, Miami Herald; César Alvarez, senior chairman, Greenberg Traurig; Jorge Plasencia, chairman and CEO, República Havas; Juan del Busto, chairman, Del Busto Capital Partners; Drs. Aurora and Arnhilda Badía; Lilliam López, president, South Florida Hispanic Chamber; David Evensky, partner, Evensky & Katz; Randall Bodner, UBS; and Sam Verdeja, founder of Facts About Cuban Exiles (FACE).
