Commissioner Miguel Angel Gabela has donated $10,000 to LSF Miami Bridge Youth & Family Services to support upcoming renovations to the girls’ dormitory at the organization’s Miami Central Campus.
The donation follows Commissioner Gabela’s tour of the newly renovated boys’ dormitories, which feature four double rooms and two single rooms designed to provide a safe, dignified space for the youth in the organization’s care.
“Supporting LSF Miami Bridge means standing up for the most vulnerable youth in our community,” said Commissioner Gabela. “Every young person deserves a safe place to grow and thrive, and at times heal. I was proud to have helped kick off the renovations for the girls’ dorms to ensure they have a space that reflects their dignity and potential.”
LSF Miami Bridge operates two 24-hour emergency shelters in Homestead and Miami, providing immediate refuge for youth experiencing traumatic stressors. Each shelter accommodates 20 beds, divided evenly between male and female residents. These shelters are fully licensed and accredited, ensuring that the youth who come through their doors receive the best care possible.
“We are deeply grateful for Commissioner Gabela’s generous donation,” said Dr. Toshiba L. Mitchell, program director at LSF Miami Bridge. “This support helps us continue creating safe, healing spaces for the youth we serve. Prevention begins with presence—and with partners like Commissioner Gabela, we can keep showing up for those who need us most.”
In addition to providing emergency shelter, LSF Miami Bridge focuses on preventing youth from entering the juvenile justice system through a variety of programs, including individual, family, and group counseling. The organization aims to support youth in crisis, helping them build resilience, achieve personal goals, and reconnect with their families and communities.
