WHAT: The Miami Lighthouse for the Blind and Visually Impaired (MLH) and Miami Marlins are bringing the game of baseball to MLH Pre-Employment Transition Services Program Participants through their Beep Ball Classic on July 8, and a Sensory Tour on July 23. The Beep Ball Classic is an adapted game of baseball relying on auditory cues, so visually impaired and blind individuals can locate the ball. The featured guest will be Jeff Conine, Mr. Marlin, who will participate in the Beep Baseball Classic. On the sensory tour, blind and visually impaired teenage participants will go on a guided tour around the ballpark that includes walking the field, exploring equipment in the team’s dugout with a Marlins player, and a sensory tour of the facility.
Miami Lighthouse offers pre-employment transition services providing individuals aged 14-22 years old the opportunity to develop skills to enter the workforce or post-secondary education. The program teaches students home and personal management, assistive technology, job readiness, orientation and mobility, social skills, and community integration.
