Terranova Corporation recently announced the debut of a limited-time art pop-up gallery by acclaimed contemporary artist David Gary Lloyd at 255 Alhambra in Coral Gables.

Launched during June in honor of Pride Month, the exhibition invites residents and visitors to experience thought-provoking art in the heart of Downtown Coral Gables. Lloyd’s new solo exhibition, titled “Garden Shadows of the Sun,” will be on view through Sept. 15.

Building on previous activations such as the LUMAS Gallery and Oolite Arts Project Space, Terranova continues its mission of merging business, art, and community in Coral Gables.

“Art has the power to bring energy and meaning to the spaces we live and work in,” said Mindy McIlroy, president of Terranova Corporation. “David Gary Lloyd’s work embodies the spirit of innovation and cultural richness that defines Coral Gables. We’re thrilled to host his exhibition at 255 Alhambra.”

Lloyd’s multidisciplinary installation transforms the building’s lobby into a gallery space, offering an immersive encounter with his latest work, “Garden Shadows of the Sun.” The exhibition explores the hidden, coded, and resilient expressions of queer identity against the backdrop of South Florida’s landscape. As a proud member of the LGBTQ+ community, Lloyd often weaves themes of identity and belonging, encouraging viewers to explore their relationship with the spaces they inhabit.

“It’s an honor to present my work at 255 Alhambra,” Lloyd said. “This installation is about creating opportunities for reflection and connection. Sharing this experience with the Coral Gables community — a place that’s shaped my journey — makes it especially meaningful.”

Using intimate portraits and symbolic natural imagery, including flamingos, peacocks, and butterflies, Lloyd draws from the lush beauty of Florida’s environment to mirror the quiet flourishing and coded legacy of LGBTQ+ lives. Each portrait is interwoven with subtle markers of queer culture, inviting viewers to decode a rich, layered visual language often invisible to the mainstream eye. At a time when queer visibility faces renewed political pressures, particularly within Florida, “Garden Shadows of the Sun” insists on both remembering and rejoicing.

A South Florida based artist and graduate of the Savannah College of Art & Design, Lloyd is known for minimalist yet emotionally resonant works that reflect the city’s lush landscape and community. His art has been featured in exhibitions across the U.S.

The exhibition is free and open to the public Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 255 Alhambra Circle. Through collaborations like this, Terranova continues to reimagine the role of commercial real estate as a platform for culture, creativity, and community engagement.
