Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava recently unveiled her proposed Fiscal Year 2025-26 budget, outlining a fair and balanced plan that protects critical services while maintaining a flat millage rate despite unprecedented fiscal challenges.

“Over the last five years, we’ve worked hard to build an efficient, effective government that delivers the services our residents need to thrive – while keeping taxes low,” Mayor Levine Cava said. “Since I became mayor we have made historic investments in public safety, housing, transit, and more, and we passed two consecutive years of tax cuts that brought our combined tax rate to the lowest since 1982.

“This year, as we face a perfect storm of fiscal challenges, we remain laser-focused on delivering reliable, efficient government services without increasing costs to taxpayers. My proposed budget is a balanced plan that puts residents first, protects core services, and safeguards our long-term financial health,” the mayor added.

The proposed budget addresses a projected $402 million shortfall driven by multiple challenges converging in a single fiscal year: the creation of new state-mandated constitutional offices that make up nearly half of the total budget gap; loss of federal and state revenue; rising operating costs, and increased demand for county services.

To meet these challenges head-on, the administration has taken bold steps to streamline county government without sacrificing services. Proposed measures include consolidating departments to eliminate duplication, reducing pay for top executives, investing in technology to drive greater efficiency, and optimizing county assets to generate revenue.

County commissioners will vote to pass the final budget in September.
